What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device to remember information about your visit. They are widely used to make websites work, to make them work more efficiently, and to provide reporting information to the website owners.
We use cookies and similar technologies (such as localStorage) on merges.io to support three categories of functionality, described below. You can change which categories you allow at any time via the cookie settings section at the bottom of this page, or by using the link in the footer of every page.
Cookies we use
Strictly necessary (always active)
| Name | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|
| merges_consent_v1 | Stores your cookie consent choices so we don't re-prompt on every page. | 6 months |
These cookies are required for the website to function correctly and cannot be disabled. They do not track you and are not shared with any third party.
Analytics (opt-in)
If you consent to analytics, we load Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors discover and use merges.io.
| Name | Provided by | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google | Distinguishes unique visitors. | 2 years |
| _ga_<container> | Google | GA4 session state. | 2 years |
| _gid | Google | Distinguishes users. | 24 hours |
When analytics consent is denied, Google Analytics still loads in a privacy-preserving "cookieless pings" mode that does not set any cookies and does not identify you personally. This allows us to see aggregate trends while respecting your choice.
Marketing (opt-in)
If you consent to marketing, we load Google Ads conversion tracking to measure the effectiveness of our advertising and show you relevant content on other sites.
| Name | Provided by | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| _gcl_au | Google | Google Ads conversion linker. | 90 days |
| NID | Google | Google account preferences for personalized ads. | 6 months |
We never sell your data. Marketing cookies are used solely to measure the performance of our own campaigns and to show you merges.io content on other sites.
Third-party data processors
We use the following third parties to process cookie data on our behalf:
- Google LLC — operates Google Analytics and Google Ads. See Google's Privacy Policy and Google Ads Data Processing Terms.
All data shared with Google is handled under Google's Data Processing Addendum, which provides GDPR-equivalent protections for users in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland.
How to change your cookie choices
You can withdraw or change your consent at any time:
- Click the Cookie settings link in the footer of any page, or
- Use the button below.
How to disable cookies in your browser
Every modern browser lets you block or delete cookies globally. For instructions specific to your browser, see:
Please note that blocking all cookies may prevent parts of merges.io from functioning correctly.
