Introduction

Welcome to the Merges User Manual. Merges is designed to simplify your Shopify store's inventory management by intelligently merging product variants into a single, cohesive listing. This manual will guide you through each step of the process, ensuring you can effectively use all the features Merges offers.

Getting started

Accessing Merges

  1. Log in to your Shopify Admin.

  2. Navigate to the Apps section and select Merges from your installed apps list.

Preparing for merging

Before starting the merge process, it's essential to review your product listings to identify which products and variants you aim to combine. Consider merging products that share similar characteristics but are listed separately due to different variants like color, size, or material.

Step-by-step merging process

Here is how you can merge products and variants for Shopify.

Step 1: Selecting products to merge

From your Shopify Admin, go to the Products tab. Select the checkboxes next to the products you want to merge, setting the stage for a more organized and customer-friendly online store.

  • Select the checkboxes next to the products you want to merge.

Example:
Imagine you sell sneakers with various color and size options, currently listed separately—for instance, plum sneakers available in sizes 6 through 10, and orange sneakers in sizes 6 and 10 only. By using Merges, you can consolidate these into a single product listing. This integration significantly streamlines the shopping experience, enabling customers to easily select their preferred color and size from dropdown menus on a unified product page, thus simplifying their decision-making process and enhancing the overall user experience.

Step 2: Initiating the merge

  • Click on the '...' More actions button at the top right corner of your products list.

Step 3: Reviewing and finalizing the merge

This integrated environment allows you to review and edit all the details of the merged products and variants, facilitating a seamless management experience as if handling a single product.

This intuitive interface ensures you have full control over how your merged products are presented in your store, allowing for customization and optimization to meet your unique needs and preferences.

  • Product Images, Prices, and Inventory Details: The merged product will include combined images (with duplicate detection for standard and professional plans), prices, SKUs, barcodes, and inventory information. Review these to ensure they accurately reflect your merged product offering.

  • Consolidated Product Information: Shipping requirements, weight, options, variants, product category, and product type are merged for easy review and adjustment. Collections and tags from the original products are also combined, with any duplicates automatically removed to streamline your product's presence in your store.

  • AI-Generated Titles and Descriptions: As part of the merge process, Merges employs advanced AI to automatically generate new titles and descriptions. This ensures that the wording encompasses all the information from the previously selected products, creating a unified title and description that effectively represents all of the newly created variants. Although these suggestions are crafted to comprehensively match your merged product, you can edit them to better suit your preferences or SEO strategies.

This allows for quick iterations and helps you to find the best possible title and description for your merged product.

    • Original Titles Dropdown: Next to the regeneration button, there's a dropdown box containing all the original titles from the products being merged. This provides you with the flexibility to revert to or choose from the pre-existing titles if they more accurately reflect your product or if you prefer them for any reason.

Step 4: Saving and viewing your product

After you've reviewed and are satisfied with the merged product details:

  • Click Save. You'll be prompted with options regarding inventory quantities and SKUs. Select as necessary to align with your inventory management practices.
